The South of Scotland faces a complex balancing task: how to make the most of its rich natural capital while addressing population change and supporting thriving local communities.

Following up on our event in Dumfries in November, the panel will consider how place-based initiatives can deliver net zero, what stands in the way of land becoming a true driver of economic and social change, and what does fairness look like when weighing up opportunities for people, the economy, and nature in the Borders. At a pivotal political moment, this event draws insights from expertise and lived experience to ask: how can land use decisions shape a fairer, more resilient South of Scotland?
